DACA renewal requests are being accepted again after federal judge's ruling

Sen. Jeff Flake R-Ariz. speaks during a meeting with President Donald Trump and lawmakers on immigration policy at the White House on Tuesday

Some Connecticut recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA, say they still worry about their futures. The program will follow the same terms that were in place before it was rescinded September 5, according to a news release Saturday.

In a statement posted Saturday on its website, the USCIS says the policy under the Deferred Actions for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA, will be operated under the terms in place before it was rescinded in September. Under Alsup's ruling, renewal applications must still be accepted, giving those approved another two years from the new date of their application approval. Most of her DACA clients, about 90, come from Kansas. "So great great news for DACA that we will now be able to do DACA renewals".

The decision comes four days after a federal judge, in a nod to pending lawsuits, temporarily blocked the Trump administration's decision to end the program.

The deal hit a snag after reports Thursday that told lawmakers at a meeting on immigration at the that the USA didn't need more immigrants from "sh-hole countries" like Haiti, El Salvador and several African countries. "Like the president's meeting with congressional leaders demonstrated, there are many different ideas on how we get there, but our members are committed to working with leadership to fix the problem - beginning with a solution that includes DACA, increased border security, and reducing the backlog in our immigration courts". The program protected young undocumented immigrants who came to the United States as children from deportation.

The program granted temporary protection from deportation to hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants who were brought to the U.S.as children, often referred to as "dreamers".
