Elliott hits 3rd FG to give Eagles 15-10 lead

Philadelphia Eagles safety Rodney Mc Leod sacks Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan during the second half of an NFL football NFC divisional playoff game Saturday Jan. 13 2018 in Philadelphia

This writer believes oddsmakers are overreacting a bit here to Atlanta's win and Foles' last two games.

After Julio Jones took a third-down catch to about the two-yard line, Ryan rolled out to his right, only there were no options open and he just tossed it up for Jones - who couldn't reel it in on fourth down. Who can remember Super Bowl 51? On Saturday, the offense was up and down against Atlanta and found the end zone just once, but it was backed by a lights-out defense that came up with a big stand in the shadow of the end zone to close the game. "We saw it. We made too many mistakes in the first half that hurt us but we limited the mistakes in the second half and, Atlanta played a great game, but it feels really good to get this victory".

On the fourth-and-1 decision from the three-yard line, Pederson was really tempted to go for a first down, though his team was ahead by just 12-10 at the time with just over six minutes to play. Jones ended up on the ground during his route and got back up.

The nightcap features the AFC's top seed, the New England Patriots (13-3), and the No. 5 seed Tennessee Titans (10-7) at Foxborough, Massachusetts.

On the ensuing drive, Matt Ryan led the Falcons down the field and almost connected on a pass to Mohamed Sanu.

Jones had nine catches on sixteen targets for 101 yards receiving. That was after he went 19 of 38 for 163 yards with a touchdown and interception in an ugly 19-10 win over the Oakland Raiders in week 16. "That was it. Our team never wavered, defense did an wonderful job, special teams — thats just been the story this year is that we just all stuck together".

Nick Foles of the Philadelphia Eagles celebrates. Obviously, the fumble first carry, can't do that.

The Philadelphia Eagles were the best team in the regular season against the run.

Pederson put together a game plan created to run the ball and didn't stray.

Elliott's 53-yard field goal with one second remaining in the second quarter trimmed the Philadelphia deficit to one point, and he would cap two second half drives with field goals from 37 and 21 yards out to produce what would ultimately be the final score. That means a heavy dose of Jay Ajayi and LeGarrette Blount in the running game. Foles would lead them back into field goal range, however, and help the Eagles go up 12-10. Atlanta, the reigning NFC champion, drove the ball down the field with a mix of runs and passes, finally generating a rhythm against the Eagles' defense.

Foles finished a very efficient outing by going 23 of 30 for 246 yards.

Rookie Takk McKinley's sack was the only one recorded on the day for the Falcons.

The Falcons have struggled on offense all year and in their wild card win in Los Angeles they were still struggling, as they had to settle for multiple field goals.

On Saturday afternoon, the Philadelphia Eagles will play the Atlanta Falcons to begin the sprint toward Minneapolis and Super Bowl 52. The Falcons will receive the kickoff to start the third quarter.
