Katie Couric Slams Today for Matt Lauer's 'Completely Unacceptable' Workplace Harassment

Matt Lauer says his farewell to Katie Couric his exiting co-host of the NBC

I feel I speak for many of my coworkers once I say it was not exactly the Matt we knew.

While speaking with ET on Saturday, she also addressed her 2012 interview on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, when she quipped that the most annoying thing about Lauer was that he "pinches me on the a** a lot". The accounts I have read and heard have been very disturbing, distressing and disorienting and it is completely unacceptable that women at the Today show experienced this kind of treatment'.

In her People interview, however, Couric dismissed the suggestion it was proof that she knew of Lauer's reputation.

The journalist stated that she was "unaware" of anything Lauer had been accused of, before and after her time on the popular morning show.

In November, NBC abruptly fired Lauer after a female staffer claimed that Lauer had engaged in sexual misconduct when they were in Sochi covering the 2014 winter Olympic games. She says that Lauer was "a kind and generous colleague who treated me with respect".

'In fact, a joke I once made on late-night television was just that, because it was completely contrary to our brother-sister relationship, ' she said. In a memo to staffers, NBC News Chairman Andrew Lack said executives "received a detailed complaint from a colleague about inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace by Matt Lauer". Subsequent reports revealed allegations of harassment and assault. I really admire the way Savannah [Guthrie] and Hoda [Kotb] and the entire Today show staff have handled a very hard situation, ' she added. "It's still very upsetting", Couric said. A chunk of the comment made the rounds on the web within the aftermath of Lauer's firing.

"There are no words to express my sorrow and regret for the pain I have caused others by words and actions". "To the people I have hurt, I'm truly sorry". Repairing the damage will take a lot of time and soul-searching and I'm committed to beginning that effort.

"I mean, I think that's very illustrative of the current media landscape, that something can be plucked, and then taken out of context".
