The detained leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, has made his first public appearance more than two years after he was detained by the Nigerian government.

His clearance to come out of the heavily guarded building by the Department of State Service (DSS) followed rumours surrounding his whereabouts.

Speaking briefly at the DSS facility in Abuja, yesterday El- Zakzaky said his health condition has improved and thanked the security agents for the kind treatment being extended to him.

Journalist: Can we have a word with you?

Journalist: Do you have anything to add?

There had been rumors surrounding his well-being, with speculations that he may have died in detention.

Their continued detention has sparked several reactions from his supporters, the government and even human rights lawyer, Femi Falana.

The cleric and his wife sustained gunshot wounds during their arrests.

"He has lost an eye; he is in the process of losing the other one".

He said that DSS was appealing to everyone to be peace-loving and to go about their normal businesses and report any negative and suspicious developments in their neighbourhood.

There have been series of protest by the Shiites members in different cities of the country calling for unconditional release of their leader and his wife, especially against the background of court rulings that ordered his release.

Also, 53 of his followers were arrested on Wednesday by the Police in Abuja following a violent protest.
