Disney Unveils Inaugural Streaming Service Launch Slate To Town; No R-Rated Fare

Disney's Streaming Service Launching in 2019 Film and TV Slate Already Set

Now that production has wrapped under director Ron Howard and the first trailer for the film has been released, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy is speaking out on the decision to change directions.

In a new interview, Ron Howard was asked about just how much he reshot for Solo when he took over for Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

That also includes all of the props that were used to film Solo, and lucky for us, as Burkert gave The Star Wars Show a tour of the Lucasfilm archives, she also happened to pull out a model of the Millennium Falcon from the spinoff film. So, it's not like there's anything I can really add to it because the last thing I want to do is... I hope fans won't even think about how the movie was made.

"I just say over and over again that, yes, it was an incredibly hard decision that we had to make and obviously it was pretty late in the game, which shows we spent a lot of time trying not to have to make that decision".

Cute butchering of the original Han Solo quote aside, Howard's got a point regarding the movie's construction. Ultimately, the director says that he took on the position because he felt that he could help out the project.

In addition to having elements of the older Flash Gordon films and comics, Lucas told Howard he wanted to make a film with "the grandeur of 2001, and the realism of those special effects that Kubrick created..." He had this to say.

"I know Chris and Phil". They're incredibly talented guys, and all anyone at Imagine Entertainment wants to do is find a way to work with Chris and Phil, and that's every bit as much the case today as ever. "But when I learned that this change was happening, it just came in a moment where I was working on lots of new projects for Imagine [the film and TV production company], and I had not planned to direct anything previous year", he explains.

We may never know who did exactly what when Solo: A Star Wars Story hits theaters this May, but does it really matter?

Lucas sold his company to Disney in 2012 for over $4 billion. One wonders if Howard merely means that the actors' character prep with the 22 Jump Street directors is present, as there was certainly not enough time for the new boss - who entered the picture just before Lord & Miller were set to wrap principal photography - to remold each performance as he saw fit.
