Intel put on an Olympic light show with 1218 drones

Specialists of the company simultaneously launched 1218 synchronized drones
The intention is for the drones, hovering about 400 feet off the ground near the stadium, to wow the Olympic Stadium crowd with light-beamed illustrations of Olympic rings, a peace dove and other images.
In fact, the tech giant launched 1,280 of its drones in December in Pyeongchang and pre-recorded the light show that aired on NBC's tape-delayed broadcast in the United States.
"In order to create a real and lifelike version of the snowboarder with more than 1,200 drones, our animation team used a photo of a real snowboarder in action to get the flawless outline and shape in the sky", claimed Intel's general manager of drone light shows, Natalie Cheung.
Intel is the official drone partner of the Olympics. According to Wired, which talked to the company about its performance, Intel will produce live drone shows throughout the Olympics and will have nightly shows during medal ceremonies.
Intel's drones are large LED lights with propellers and sensors attached. The fleet is controlled by one computer and one pilot. You might remember a similar spectacle at Lady Gaga's 2017 Super Bowl half-time show, but that only involved about 300 drones.
"We are excited to be part of the Olympic Movement to integrate Intel's innovative technologies to advance the Olympics Games experience for fans around the world".

Team Germany, who isn't considered to be in medal contention in the team event, is in eighth place after the two events. That would involve a gold medal, and Canada's best bet for top spot on the podium is most certainly in this event.
