He had even threatened to bury the minor alive if she revealed anything to her parents, said the reports.

The girl student had recently stopped going to the school.

The protesting parents started hitting the police with helmets, which injured the two officers. "It was then we made a decision to stage a protest outside the school", he said. The parents immediately complained to the school and demanded strict action against the teacher but the complaint fell on deaf ears of school authorities. "We have arrested the teacher and initiated an investigation into the matter", he said, adding the agitators assaulted the accused when he was being taken away. Enraged at the ignorance of the school authorities, aggravated parents are staging a protest at the school premises.

"They are saying the CCTV cameras have been removed because fix work is going on".

Sushmita Das, whose daughter studies in Class 1 of the school, alleged a teacher asked them not to protest as "our ward was not the victim".

The incident brought back memories of another case in December last year when a four-year-old girl student was allegedly sexually assaulted by two teachers inside an English-medium school. The accused dance teacher has been arrested. "The school authorities should also keep a vigil that such incidents do not take place", Chatterjee said.

As the guardians stood demonstrating outside the Carmel Primary School the scene was eerily similar to the disquiet outside GD Birla Centre for Education in posh south Kolkata locality, where angry parents had camped outside the school for hours, leaving the principal and staff stuck inside the school.

"Why should there be male teachers in a girls' school?"
