GERM HEAVEN: Picture of bacteria grown from bathroom hand dryer air goes viral

These gross pics reveal why you should NEVER use a hand dryer in a public toilet

But it's the very contaminates that you're drying your hands with but you can not see with the naked eye until it's incubated'.

She then let the dish sit for three days and what grew in it was alarming.

Still, she added that it's still better to use the air dryers than to not wash your hands at all.

Posting on Facebook, Nichole photographed the result of an experiment she did that had pretty terrifying results.

Nichole's post has since been shared over a half a million times, and she has said that even she was surprised that the results were so bad.

"Ahh! I just used one of those today and on it, it says "the most hygienic" and all I could wonder is what about the air it blows into your face which is contaminated air in the bathroom", Darby Toth commented on Facebook.

One Facebook user wrote: "So freaking nasty!"

A viral Facebook post about bacteria in some bathroom hand dryers has scared many away from using them and caused concerns about whether the devices spread risky bacteria that could make someone sick. One student, a Ms. Nichole Ward, chose to place hers inside a Dyson hand dryer in a women's bathroom. Dyson provided a statement to ABC Action News addressing the findings.

The statement said all Dyson Airblade dryers have high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters that capture bacteria particles from washroom air before it leaves the machine. Dyson Airblade hand dryers are proven hygienic by university research and are trusted by hospitals, food manufacturers and businesses worldwide.

She added that the dish contained "several strains of possible pathogenic fungi and bacteria" - a whole host of bugs which could make you ill - that could well end up on people's hands instead.

'I stuck the open plate in an enclosed hand dryer of a public bathroom for a total of 3 minutes. "Remember, it's not the size of the colony that matters, just the number found".

Ward goes on to call for a ban on the Dyson air dryer, and obviously the picture has touched a nerve for those who have come across it online. Earlier studies have also suggested that air dryers spread germs further compared to paper towels or napkins.

Wider says the photo actually does pose a "legitimate concern".
