The actor shared the sad news on Facebook in a heart-wrenching post, revealing his son passed away last month. According to the actor, in 2016 Henry was diagnosed with a brain tumor after his first birthday. "My two and a half-year year old son Henry has passed away", the 41-year-old actor/comedian wrote on his Facebook page.
After he was admitted to an NHS hospital, doctors discovered the tumour and Henry underwent surgery to remove it. "Henry was a joy".
"They are why I will endeavour to not go mad with grief".
Two-and-a-half-year-old Henry was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2016.
His tumor and surgery left him with critical physical handicaps, yet he immediately learned communication through signing and built up his own strategy for getting from A to B rearranging on his delightful minimal bum.
"His drive to live and to love and to connect was profound", he added.
My wife and Henry's older brothers and I are devastated of course.
I am surprised by the affection in real life showed by Henry's mother and his siblings. "I'm greedy for more experiences with them".
The actor, who lives in London, credited Britain's National Health Service doctors and nurses for treating his son and encouraged people to support the national healthcare system.
Appealing for donations to the charities who had also been a source of great support, he added: "If you'd like to help other families in the United Kingdom with very sick children, please make a donation to Rainbow Trust (https://rainbowtrust.org.uk) or Noah's Ark (https://www.noahsarkhospice.org.uk) in Henry's name or in the name of someone you love". There's not much anyone can say to ease the family's pain, but donating and volunteering may eventually help end children's suffering.
"Thank you, lovely Henry, for spending as much time with us as you did", he wrote. I would also urge you to take concrete and sustained action to support the NHS, however you can. "We miss you to such an extent".
Comedian David Baddiel said: "So very sad to hear this, at the same time as being incredibly moved and uplifted by the spirt in which you wrote that post".
