This is perhaps for the first time that workers of a political party attacked the residence of a Government official possibly exposing the strategy of the BJP to target persons closely working with the Chief Minister.

A scuffle ensued between the BJP workers and policemen while the former were trying to enter inside the house.

On being informed, Twin City Police Commissioner YB Khurania and DCP Satyabrata Bhoi rushed to the spot. The senior police officer said the attack on the house of a civil service officer was a serious matter. "It depicts the mentality of top BJP leaders and reveals the motive of BJP which aspires to rule the state". Such kinds of protests are unacceptable in a democracy.

Deb said the BJP is indulging in such violence in the State with an intention to delay or postpone the scheduled February 24 Bijepur Assembly by-election as the party fears to lose poll battle.

Deb said that Pandian is an officer of impeccable integrity.

The incident was widely condemned by the CM, the Congress and associations of Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and Odisha Administrative Service officers.

Likewise, IAS Association Secretary Vishal Dev condemned the attack saying such incident had not taken place earlier in the state. Samal demanded strong action against the perpetrators and instigators in the incident. The people, allegedly belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, stormed into the compound of the official quarters of VK Pandian and damaged flower pots. They also threw cow dung on the wall and the main gate of the house.

Patnaik condemning the attack, told the media, "It is shocking and that too from a national party". While Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik described the incident as shocking, Leader of the Opposition Narasingh Mishra said BJP's attempt to come to power in Odisha through violence and hooliganism will never be successful.
