Trump, who was recorded on tape prior to his presidency boasting about sexually assaulting women, has denied allegations of sexual misconduct from more than a dozen women, and said he was the victim of a "smear campaign". "They could have done a lot better particularly with the Rob Porter situation".

Trump's latest tweet comes at a time when many Republicans would prefer to see Trump keep the spotlight on a generally healthy economy and December's big tax cuts. Despite Trump's insistence to brush off Porter's violent past as "mere allegations", the fact remains that both of his former wives, Colbie Holderness and Jennifer Willoughby, have evidence to back up their claims in the form of graphic photos of abuse and a 2010 protection order, respectively.

"He worked very hard", Trump told reporters in the Oval Office when asked for a comment about Porter. Kelly ultimately wrote that he was "shocked by the new allegations". Strangers complimented him to me every time we went out.

Trump had a similar response to allegations that Senate candidate Roy Moore in Alabama had preyed on girls as young as 14 when he was in his 30s.

The statement came after White House speechwriter David Sorensen and staff secretary Rob Porter stepped down from their position after their former spouses accused them of physical and emotional abuse.

"We immediately confronted the staffer, he denied the allegations and he resigned today", Shah said. The domestic violence allegations became high-profile this week thanks to a Daily Mail report. However, Sorensen alleges it was his ex-wife, Jessica Corbett, who was abusive towards him.

The emerging timeline illustrates the degree to which Porter, a clean-cut and ambitious former Rhodes scholar and Harvard Law School-educated lawyer, concealed troublesome episodes from his past that would normally be considered disqualifying for a senior White House aide. First and foremost: Will anyone believe them?

The crisis also raises questions about Hope Hicks's decision-making, and whether her romantic relationship with Porter clouded her judgment.

In November, the White House heard back from the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The Washington Post first reported the allegations. Although Kelly had considered pressuring Porter to leave his role, according to that official, he never did.

The announcement came as part of a slew of promotions announced by the White House Wednesday evening.

If the report is true, this would contradict Kelly's and the White House's public statements on how Porter left his job.

Trump has also tapped former Deputy Chief of Staff Jim Carroll to serve as the next drug czar.

"There is no tolerance in this White House and no place in America for domestic abuse", Pence said.

There was no sign that a move was imminent, according to the people with knowledge of the conversations.

"Most importantly, the President has deep respect for her, cares about her greatly, and listens to her", Ivanka Trump said Friday, per NYT.

"Forty minutes later he was gone", Kelly said.

As the meeting broke up, Hicks loudly complained about what had transpired, using an expletive, a person briefed on the meeting said.

President Donald Trump on Friday defended Porter, citing his proclamation of innocence, and said he did a good job in the White House and wished him well in his future endeavors. He has also returned to a notion he has raised privately in the past, telling people he would like Thomas J. Barrack Jr., a close friend and confidant, to take the job. But John Kelly has not offered his resignation. But his frustration with Kelly has grown in recent weeks.

President Donald Trump and White House counsel Don McGahn are growing increasingly irritated with the months-long inability for Jared Kushner to secure permanent security clearance, sources told The Boston Globe.
