WhatsApp has launched the beta version of its app that allows the users to make payments
User to user payments on WhatsApp are finally starting to roll out in India, after what we can only surmise was a pretty lengthy development period of over 10 months, since the first public mention of the feature. The appearances in the past have been on earlier beta version of the popular msessaging application. Soon you could send and receive money using WhatsApp, as the latest WhatsApp Beta version has started testing the Payment option. They can then authorize transaction with the pin to complete the payment.
The NPCI has its own UPI-enabled payments app called BHIM.
In India more than 200 million people use WhatsApp and it is a country that is committed to all technological advances, and Facebook people know very well to launch various pilot tests. It is available in the chats attachment menu along with Documents, Gallery, Audio, Location and Contact. To put things in context, Paytm has 180 million users in the country, whereas Google Tez, another UPI-based payment application, crossed 12 million users in India a year ago four months after its launch. Additionally, you will have to create a UPI account (if you don't have one previously) through the UPI app or your respective bank's website/ app.
WhatsApp already made it clear that it has been working on a payment solution for Indian market.
