Solar Eclipse is caused when Moon comes between Earth and Sun. The U.S. experienced a total solar eclipse on August 21, 2017, which made history for being the first total solar eclipse seen only in the United States since the nation's birth in 1776.

If the Earth, moon and sun were all in the same plane, there would be eclipses every month.

"The point of maximum eclipse - where observers will see the most coverage of the face of the sun - will be on the coast of Antarctica, east of the Antarctic Peninsula, so the nearest inhabited areas are research bases". When the moon completely covers the sun with its shadow, it is called the total solar eclipse.

It will start in the afternoon, and the maximum eclipse (when the axis of the moon's shadow cone passes closest to Earth's center) will arrive about two hours later, with the total event lasting for around four hours. The entire eclipse will take 2 hours. Viewd through proper solar filters, the moon will appear to bite roughly three-fifths or so into the sun's upper edge. However, the Indian hemisphere will not be able to witness this one. According to the experts, some lucky Earthlings will be able to chase their chocolates and wine with a partial solar eclipse on February 15. This can be seen over Antarctica, southern parts of the Atlantic ocean and southern South America.

When are the next solar eclipses in 2018?

Approximately 60 million people live within the zone of visibility for this eclipse, a far cry from the many hundreds of millions who viewed the Great American Solar Eclipse last summer.

Antarctica will experience the partial eclipse between about 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. UTC or 9 a.m. local time. It says that eye protection like a special eclipse glasses should be used to witness the solar eclipse.

Then, there is Jay Pasachoff, Field memorial professor of astronomy at Williams College in MA, who is willing to accept even the smallest crumbs from the eclipse tables and will travel to Buenos Aires with his wife, Naomi, to watch the moon take a small scallop out of the sun.

The next partial solar eclipse will be around 13 of July but that too will not be visible from India.

. Be it a partial eclipse or total, it is never safe to look directly at the site, said NASA scientists.
