"Students and allies are organizing the National School Walkout to demand Congress pass legislation to keep us safe from gun violence at our schools, on our streets and in our homes and places of worship".

A nationwide school walkout to end gun violence is planned for March 14 to honor those killed in the Parkland Florida school massacre.

"We are done with your agenda to undermine the safety of our nation's youth, and the individual voices of the American people", Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student Sarah Chadwick said in a video posted to social media.

Chimacum Middle School officials confirmed that students had coordinated the walkout with them and would proceed safely and respectfully, and under those conditions, none of the students would be penalized for taking part.

Beasley said he believes it is important to give students a voice "concerning critical matters that have a direct impact on their lives".

Novi Superintendent Steve Matthews shares parents' fears, especially if 2,000 students jam the halls and walk outside.

"In effect, they become literally the elite of officers", said Perez, who was not present at Tuesday's board meeting.

Butler said the district wants to prevent an "oppositional or confrontational type situation" from happening, and that the district itself must remain neutral on the subjects.

Bouck said students will be instructed to go to a specific area, where they will be supervised for the duration of the event.

But Principal Dan Kimzey said that most of his students and faculty respect each other's decision regardless of political beliefs.

"The objective of the nationwide walkout clearly states that this is to demand that Congress pass legislation (gun control) to help keep schools safe", posted Julie Jones-Kelly on the school's Facebook page. The walkout will take place at 10 a.m. during second block. "How do we make sure the people that come into the school are the people that belong here all the time?".

District policy says absences due to illness, family emergencies, recognized religious observances and school-sponsored activities are excused and will not count as truancy. "Students have stated that their goal is to have an opportunity for all students to express their points of view on school safety".

Representative Dustin White is condemning schools participating in the National Student Walkout scheduled for next week. It is being organized by "a collective of teenage activists in cities across the country who work to organize our peers to take action on the issues we marched for on January 21, 2017", according to
