Xbox One will support cross-play with Fortnite: Battle Royale Mobile.

Unfortunately though, it appears that cross-play won't happen between PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players.

A couple of days ago, we shared the news that Epic Games' Fortnite: Battle Royale will be getting a mobile release, and with the mobile release, will end up supporting crossplay and cross-progress functionality. "Microsoft has always been a leading voice in encouraging the adoption of cross-platform play and the potential of connecting players across PC, mobile and all consoles".

Multi-platform play has been the go to for many game franchises, and has worked out fine. Cross-play was possible when Epic Games' apparently forgot to "switch off" its cross-platform play between the PS4 and Xbox One previous year which proved that it wasn't impossible. Microsoft's Xbox One was left out of the list, which like we said isn't surprising given Sony's past reluctance.

The content and the novelties of "Fornite" do not seem to have limits since it implemented its successful Battle Royale mode.

And now, Fortnite has announced that the game is coming on mobile devices. In a post on their website by the Fortnite team, the developers have stated "We're happy to announce today that in partnership with our friends at Microsoft, Fortnite will feature cross-play, cross-progression, and cross-purchase, between Xbox One, PC, Mac, iOS and (in the next few months) Android". While a second announcement detailed cross-platform play between the Xbox, Mobile, and PC.

You can see above how keen both parties were to involve Sony, but so far they've refused to support cross-play with any game, not just Fortnite.
