Xbox One X And Xbox One S Updates Will Include FreeSync And Auto Low Latency Mode Support
The first episode had details on Sea of Thieves, PixArk, and the Xbox version of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. The most notable is support for the variable fehresh rate on FreeSync displays, which will be available on the Xbox One S and Xbox One X. For those with such displays, their refresh rates will synchronize with the Xbox One, allowing for a smoother viewing experience with no screen tearing or stuttering.
Microsoft said it would also add support for auto low-latency mode on compatible TVs, improving latency during gameplay.
Not only will the Xbox One support this, but it will be able to activate a TV's low latency mode only when a game is actually running. By introducing this feature, Microsoft is removing a pain point for anyone who uses their TV for gaming and watching movies.
We PC fans tend to think of FreeSync in association with high-refresh-rate gaming displays, but the technology arguably offers the greatest benefit at low frame rates.
Some of the highlights from the Inside Xbox episode featured the latest updates coming to Xbox One now and later this Spring. When enabled, this will send a signal to a compatible TV that a game is being played and to turn on its Game Mode, which many TVs have in order to reduce latency.
The ability to share Xbox One screenshots and game clips to Twitter, complete with hashtag content.
