Dallas-bound flight makes emergency landing in Albuquerque after cabin fills with smoke

Dallas-bound flight makes emergency landing at Sunport

A passenger described the panicked screams, chaos and crying on board as his Dallas-bound Southwest flight made an emergency landing at Albuquerque International Sunport.

The Boeing 737 was en route to Dallas from Phoenix when it had to be diverted to Albuquerque, due to what could have been an electrical fire, according to NBC 4 NY.

Southwest Airlines 3562 landed at Sunport around 8 p.m. local time (10 p.m. EDT), after smoke reportedly started filling up the cabin of the plane.

The statement added there were 140 passengers onboard the plane when the incident occurred, all of whom were evacuated from the aircraft upon landing. A crewmember can be heard shouting, "Move away from the aircraft now!"

"I hit the ground really hard and was just shell-shocked that I just had to jump off the wing of an airplane", he said.

"It felt wrong when you're up there".

The Albuquerque Fire Department tweeted that two people were taken to hospital. The extent of their injuries was not immediately known.

A Sunday evening flight to Dallas took a unsafe turn for some Southwest Airline passengers.

"@SouthwestAir flight attendants did a great job!" he tweeted.

Southwest Airlines 737 like this had to make an emergency landing in New Mexico after an apparent onboard electrical fire.
