Fitbit Made a $200 Smartwatch Women Will Actually Want to Wear

Fitbit Versa brings female health tracking and a much-improved design

That feature is really just a version of the multitude of period apps you can already get on your phone.

This is all part of Fitbit's push to expand into new demographics. In fact, this new watch is the lightest metal smartwatch in the US, and measures just 11.2 mm thick.

The Fitibit Versa promises 4 days of battery life, the battery takes just two hours to charge fully.

While the Fitbit Versa is clearly aimed at women, the Fitbit Ace is one of the few fitness trackers aimed at children. The company is debuting female health tracking on the Versa, which is a way for women to track and understand their menstrual cycle and how it connects to their health.

The goal for Fitbit Ace, the company says, is to encourage kids to build habits around being physically active from an early age. Ionic was supposed to offset falling sales of simpler fitness trackers, but it was too niche. No longer are they glorified pedometers; they're much more than that.

We've only known the American fitness tracker veteran was planning to unveil its second-ever smartwatch for a couple of weeks or so, and of course, all the rumors have been proven accurate today.

The all new Fitbit Versa is smaller than the Ionic, but comes with a lot of the same features we loved on that watch, from Fitbit Pay to third-party apps. Fitbit is trying to make the OS smoother and more intuitive, and based on my short time with the device I think it's headed in the right direction. Apple has always been lauded for their design and aesthetics, so it's no wonder that Fitbit is taking a note out of their playbook with the release of the Fitbit Versa.

The Fitbit Versa resembles an Apple Watch, but that's not a bad thing. Youll get at-a-glance info of your weekly health and fitness stats.

The tracker and service are launching sometime in Q2 2018.

The downside to buying Fitbit smartwatches is that you aren't able to reply to messages from your wrist.

"The nuances of the menstrual cycle have not been as widely studied across populations as have other areas in healthcare", Fitbit adviser Dr. Katharine White says in the accompanying press release. However, there is no built-in Global Positioning System and relies on your phone with the Blurtooth connection.

Fitbit is targeting a new kind of customer, one that probably isn't even old enough to have a gym membership. All Versa watches in Europe and Asia will come with Fitbit Pay onboard, but in the USA you'll need to get the £229.99 Special Edition Versa to get the feature. It's hard not to think of this as a cash grab for the USA market.

The Fitbit Versa will go on sale from April at Verizon and major retailers in North America, at a recommended retail price of Dollars 200.

The Versa will be available in black, light gray, and rose gold with a classic band; a Versa Special Edition comes in graphite and rose gold with a woven band. Fitbit also carries a couple of special edition versions, including charcoal woven/graphite aluminum and lavendar woven/rose gold aluminum. Special Edition models also come with a black classic band in the box. It will be available across both offline as well as online channels including Reliance Digital, Croma, Helios, Amazon, Flipkart, and more.

Fitbit's first smartwatch had its fair share of issues, including a large size, which made it unwieldy for many wrists.
