Telangana Legislative Council Chairperson K Swamy Goud being treated by doctors at a hospital in Hyderabad
The budget session of the Telangana legislature on Monday began on an unpleasant note with the Council presiding officer being hit in the eye by an object thrown after sloganeering by main opposition Congress members.
Pandamonium broke out in the Telangana Legislative Council on Monday after a Congres member hurled a mike at Chairman K Swamy Goud - injuring his right eye. The Governor, however, continued his address highlighting various welfare and development programmes of the government.
The MLAs had stormed the House, torn papers and threw headphones towards the chair, leaving legislative council chairman Swamy Goud injured in the eye.
Some MLAs also tore copies of the speech and flung it in the air in protest. "This is totally uncalled for by the opposition members". "When Congress members were staging protests in the House, one of the legislators was about to fall on Jana Reddy as the former was drunk", the TRS MLC claimed. He threw one headphone half way through the Governor's address, which hit the table and fell to the carpet.
The Governor said that Telangana was the first state in the country to supply free power supply to farmers and soon the state would achieve surplus in power.
"How dare he calls me a drunkard, when he has chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao beside him?" Congress also lost two of its MLAs and may have to face by-elections in those two constituencies. Later in the day, other parties also condemned the incident at the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting of the legislature, he said.
Harish Rao said all records, including video footage, would be studied and asserted that appropriate action would be taken against the MLA. As Governor ESL Narasimha started his speech, Congress MLAs started shouting slogans against the government. He has been kept under observation for the next 24 hours.
