The resignation comes the same day that Iowa Starting Line released a video online showing Dix, who is married with three children, kissing another woman who is a registered lobbyist at The Waveland in Des Moines.

Robert L. Palmer, director of government affairs and legislative counsel for the organization, said in an email to the Associated Press: "We are taking what we believe are appropriate actions, but because this is a personnel matter we can not comment further". He called for Dix to resign as majority leader. "I think he needs to make the decision to at least step down from leadership", said Johnson.

"I think Iowans holds their elected officials to a high standard".

Robert L. Palmer, director of government affairs and legislative counsel for the organization, said in an email to AP: 'We are taking what we believe are appropriate actions, but because this is a personnel matter we can not comment further'.

Bill Dix, 55, was allegedly recorded kissing the lobbyist at a bar in Des Moines on March 1.

"I want to know the facts", Reynold said, according to the Des Moines Register. "I'm extremely disappointed with what I'm hearing, but until I have an opportunity to hear the story, I'm not going to comment".

Iowa Starting Line says the woman in the video is a lobbyist for a municipality group.

In a statement, Senate Democratic Leader Janet Petersen implied that a romantic relationship between a powerful legislative leader and a lobbyist paid to try to get legislation passed was inappropriate.

Reynolds says she has asked to meet with Dix.

Anderson was sacked hours after filing a sexual harassment report.

Katie Ervin Carlson, an attorney in Iowa who handles sexual harassment and employee rights lawsuits, told the website prior to Dix's resignation that the sexual harassment training given to legislators and staffers after the settlement was awarded to the former GOP staffer last September apparently didn't work. A jury a year ago found in her favor, and the state agreed to pay out $1.75 million in exchange for it not appealing the verdict.

Republicans in the GOP-controlled chamber plan to elect a new majority leader on Wednesday.

"I not only sponsored and voted for this amendment, but I was a leader who helped shepard (sic) this amendment through the Iowa House", Dix boasted in 2006, when he ran unsuccessfully for Iowa's 1st Congressional District seat. After the deal, Dix brought in an unpaid human resources adviser, and later a permanent human resources director for the Statehouse was hired.
