Would Cowboys sack Dak Prescott if Drew Brees hit the open market

Would Cowboys sack Dak Prescott if Drew Brees hit the open market

They need a quarterback and plan on addressing that need via free agency, and Brees just so happens to be a free agent this offseason after playing on a one-year contract with the Saints in 2017. Cousins reportedly has four suitors (the Jets, Vikings, Broncos and Cardinals), while Brees is expected to return to the Saints. only New Orleans hasn't hammered out a deal with him yet.

"I can't say enough about what Zach Strief has meant to this team and to me personally over the last 12 years", quarterback Drew Brees said in a statement.

That question has undoubtedly been muttered numerous times throughout the city of New Orleans, as we have entered the so-called "legal tampering period" of National Football League free agency, and Drew Brees, one of the NFL's elite quarterbacks, is still without a deal. Brees' contract will void Wednesday afternoon, and he'll count for $18 million in dead space for the upcoming season.

Brees' unequivocal position on remaining in New Orleans also could be influenced by a desire to ensure that, if he leaves, Saints fans won't blame him for it. If any team is thinking about paying market value to Kirk Cousins over five years, why not offer market value to the 39-year-old Brees over two or three?

With each day Brees and the Saints do not agree on a new deal, the likelihood he winds up elsewhere increases. And they're title contenders, having knocked off the Saints in the playoffs to make the NFC Championship Game. Many would argue the Vikings entered their "Super Bowl window" last season, and the one thing missing from the roster now is a quality starting quarterback.

Brees could walk away from New Orleans and get paid more money and have just as good of a chance to win elsewhere. As much as the Saints and Brees love each other, Condon and Saints general manager Mickey Loomis still don't ever want to be the guy who blinks first.

Me too, Mr. Mays.
