Shia LaBeouf gives first interview since 'mortifying' 2017 arrest: 'I f---ed up'
Shia LaBeouf has been considered one of the best actors of his generation, but his antics away from the camera have landed him on the negative side of the press more often than not. Most of my life.
LaBeouf revealed that since working on the 2010 sequel to Wall Street, he pledged to go for roles that "chase sincerity", alluding to a scene in which he was being outacted by Josh Brolin and was trying to overcompensate.
LaBeouf went to rehab last fall where he was told he has PTSD, which stems from when he was around 10 years old and heard his mother being raped in their home.
'When I got to rehab previous year, they said I had PTSD, ' LaBeouf - whose father Jeffrey was abusive - explained.
Among the topics on his arrest, and the happenings while filming The Peanut Butter Falcon, Shia talks about Kanye West and how the rapper grabbed his Yeezy inspiration from him. "It was my trying to absolve myself of guilt for getting arrested... Zack can't not shoot straight, and bless him for it, 'cause in that moment, I needed a straight shooter who I couldn't argue with".
In the April issue of Esquire, Shia answers fans' burning questions about how Kanye came to possess all his clothing. "The truth is, in my desperation, I lost the plot".
Interestingly enough, LaBeouf plays tennis champ John McEnroe in his new film, Borg vs. McEnroe, who's also known for his fiery temper. And it just felt fair.
LaBeouf said: "I took my mother to his concert". He says he tried to reach out after that show, but that Ye is "going through a lot".
We already told you this, but just as a reminder: there's a pretty remarkable Shia LaBeoufinterview out today. "And I don't know where he's at or what he's doing", he said. So I went after the dude with a knife'.
And then things got racial, as LaBeouf declared, "You got a president who don't give a sh- about you, you're stuck in a police force that don't give a f- about you and you want to arrest white people who give a f-, who ask for cigarettes?" The title is a reference to his father's nickname for him, and the synopsis found on The Black List sounds very personal: "A child actor and his law-breaking, alcohol-abusing father attempt to mend their contentious relationship over the course of a decade".
