Xiaomi's Global MIUI 9 OS Expands To More Smartphones
Xiaomi will launch the Redmi 5 at 3 PM today and will also live stream the launch event online for its fans to catch the action live. The company has already revealed that the yet to be launched smartphone will be exclusively available on Amazon. The upcoming Redmi 5 is being promoted by Xiaomi on social media as a "Compact Powerhouse", with features such as big display, long battery life, fast processor, slim design, and good selfie camera in focus. Xiaomi Redmi 5 was first launched in China a year ago, along with the Redmi 5 Plus. The Redmi 5 price in China is CNY 799 (roughly Rs. 8,200) for the 2GB RAM/ 16GB storage variant, CNY 899 (about Rs. 9,250) for the 3GB RAM/ 32GB storage model, and CNY 1,099 (approximately Rs. 11,300) for the 4GB RAM/ 64GB storage option. The Plus model, however, was launched in India as the Redmi Note 5.
Redmi Note 5 Pro is available in four colour options including Black, Gold, Rose Gold, and Lake Blue. This means, in India we can expect the Redmi 5 2GB RAM + 16GB storage model to be priced around Rs 7,000, while the 3GB RAM + 32GB storage could cost around Rs 8,500.
Watch the live stream here. Like all its previous launches, this one will also be live streamed on Xiaomi's website which incidentally also has a countdown running.
The Redmi Note 5 Pro is also equipped with a 5.99-inch full HD+ display, however, it is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 octa-core SoC.
It will come equipped with a 12MP rear camera along with a 5MP front-facing camera.
The Redmi 5 will most likely be positioned in the affordable price segment, below its elder sibling, the Redmi Note 5. The smartphone comes with a microSD card facilitating expandable storage. The smartphone runs Android 7.0 Nougat operating system and comes with nano dual-SIM support. The front camera also has Xiaomi's proprietary Beautify 3.0 capabilities. In a surprise move, the smartphone manufacturer has made a decision to update all the phones including those that got released four years ago. On the front is a 5-megapixel selfie camera with a "soft-light" flash module.
