MMA DFS Playbook: UFC on Fox 29 - Poirier vs. Gaethje
Probably not given both McGregor and Tony Ferguson are lurking and looking for a fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov, but it seemed to be a sign that Poirier is finally living up to his elite-level potential, and that's only a good thing.
"This is my 20th fight in UFC". "I would never stand here and ask for something I didn't earn". Two weight classes. Dana [White], Khabib, let's go!
The No. 5-ranked Poirier ups his record to 23-5 with the win.
"I've got about five fights in me".
First, it was his stunning comeback victory win over Michael Johnson, next, it was his violent brawl with Eddie Alvarez and yesterday, he managed to maintain his own ridiculous standard with a heroic but ultimately unsuccessful clash with Dustin Poirier. Late in the round, Poirier saw a couple takedown attempts come up empty, and it was Gaethje missing, but thrilling the crowd, with a flip at his foe.
Poirier appeared willing to fight on despite the effect it had on his vision and argued with the cageside doctor and referee to continue.
Seconds into round four, a left hand from Poirier drilled Gaethje and hurt him, and "The Diamond" emptied his tank trying to finish.
As Gaethje stumbled around the cage, Poirier swarmed in to tag him with combinations before finishing him along the cage wall.
As Gaethje opened Round 4 with another leg kick, Poirier countered with a beautifully timed left straight that put him on skates, then unloaded a typhoon of strikes that sent him to the canvas and prompted Dean to wave it all off 33 seconds in.
Poirier added: "This guy [Gaethje] would have died in here if Herb Dean hadn't stopped it". "This guy has absolutely no quit, and I respect that 100 percent".
Gaethje's loss to Poirer was named fight of the night, the second consecutive card the 29-year-old has received the honour, and the Arizona native speaks with a level of confidence that makes you believe that he nearly expects to be in "fight of the night" calibre bouts. Despite no really bad fights per say, there were good points and bad points as with any UFC show - here are six of them.

Ricciardo wins incredible Chinese Grand Prix
Earlier, Red Bull's troubled start to the new season took another twist after Daniel Ricciardo's engine blew up in final practice. Ricciardo needed to make only one more pass to seal the race win, and it was perhaps the most aggressive of the race.
