Syrian troops take 'full control' of rebel-held Douma after long siege, Russia claims
In London, British Prime Minister Theresa May held an emergency cabinet meeting to discuss support for United States action against the Syrian regime.
More than 13,500 Syrian rebel fighters and their families have left Douma this month under a so-called evacuation deal between the rebels and the Russian military, a top ally of al-Assad's government. "I just want to remind you one more time it's 2018, it's not the middle of the 20th century", she said, adding that in a time of instant communications there's no reason "why people who are in charge of our security and global peace can't talk".
Top-level Israeli security officials met Wednesday to prepare for scenarios in which Israel is attacked by Iran or Syria, following a tweet by U.S. President Donald Trump declaring he would bomb Syria. "If it's Russian Federation, if it's Syria, if it's Iran, if it's all of them together, we'll figure it out and we'll know the answers quite soon", he pledged Monday.
He also noted that France would decide whether to strike Syria when all the necessary information has been gathered.
Analysts agreed that in striking Syria without U.N. authorization - impossible given Russia's repeated vetoes on the Security Council - the United States, Britain, France were relying instead on a nebulous concept of "legal morality". "We'll be coming out of Syria, like, very soon", he said.
There was no immediate confirmation or indication from Assad's government that Syrian troops entered Douma on Thursday.
"At the highest level, the presidents of the United States and France threatened a tough reaction, with the use of force against Syria".
However, French President Emmanuel Macron claimed that Paris had "the proof" that the Syrian government had used chemical weapons, including chlorine, "last week".
Since the alleged chemical weapons attack, Moscow has announced that Douma is "totally stabilized" and will be patrolled by Russian military police.
Trump has again written a message in his Twitter.
When asked whether the American blood will be spilt in case Russian lives are lost, Russian blood is spilt, Zakharova said, "I do not really want to even think about this because you know, I just want to remind you, myself and everybody who are watching this interview that we are living in 2018". Senator Edward Markey, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, criticised Trump's warnings that he intends to conduct military strikes in retaliation against Assad's use of chemical weapons. And as recently as March 29, Trump mulled ending USA military action in Syria now that the Islamic State's presence and power there is decimated.
