Rahul Gandhi joined the protest around midnight. What do YOU think about the growing violence against women & children? 2.

A Congress leader familiar with the developments said Gandhi had conveyed his decision to general secretary Ashok Gehlot who in turn directed other office bearers to ensure maximum presence in the march from the party's headquarters at 24, Akbar Road to India Gate.

"This is about our women". Thousands are present here including the common people and people from all parties.

"Today Congress workers are protesting against the rape incidents in all the 14 districts of Delhi. In no way are they standing with the weaker section of the society", she said, adding that incidents of atrocities on Dalits were on rise in India.

Speaking on the issue, Gandhi said: "This is a matter about the safety of women in this country. The party is sleeping over such matters while its ministers and MLAs are involved which is really shameful", Maken said while addressing protesters near the Red Fort. Why are accused rapists and murderers protected by the state.

Apart from scores of Congress workers, there were also students, people from civil society groups, professionals and mediapersons in the march. Talking about both the victims in a press release, Modi said, "Our daughters will definitely get justice". The party said the PM's "Beti Bachao, Beti Padao" slogan had become "Beti ko BJP se bachao (save daughters from BJP)".

Earlier in the day, Rahul took to Twitter and said, "Like millions of Indians my heart hurts tonight".

On Thursday, Rahul Gandhi led a "silent march" in Delhi to protest the gang rape and murder of a child in Jammu and Kashmir and a teenager's allegation of rape against a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lawmaker in Uttar Pradesh.

"How can anyone protect the culprits of such evil?" What happened to Asifa at #Kathua is a crime against humanity. If you can not behave, go home.

The eight-year-old girl belonging to a nomadic Muslim tribe in Kathua district was allegedly abducted, drugged, raped, tortured and killed in January. Her body was found in the same area a week later. The J&K Police have arrested 8 culprits in connection with the crime.

Jammu has been on tenterhooks since the brutal rape and murder.
