First flood watch posted for Upstate NY as heavy rain approaches

A strong cold front will push through the area today, with storms expected to develop along and ahead of the front, according to an alert from the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg.

A flash flood watch has been posted the main Hawaiian islands until 6 a.m. Sunday as an upper level disturbance near the islands combines with abundant moisture riding in on strong trade winds.

As of 4:30 a.m. Monday, Herald did not expect an appreciable amount of rain later Monday morning.

Warm temperatures have melted some of the remaining snow on Tug Hill and in the western Adirondacks, and up to 2.5 inches of rain could fall on Monday, the weather service said. Over the last several hours, the heaviest rainfall, flooding, and lightning have been occurring in the lower Puna area including Hawaiian Beaches, Pahoa, and Hawaiian Paradise Park. In North Carolina, this includes Rockingham and Stokes Counties. According to the NWS, flash flooding is extremely unsafe. That means there is the potential for flash flooding which can be life-threatening.

Due to the heavy rains, a brown water advisory has also been issued for Kauai. The second half of the week looks mostly dry and much calmer although there could be a few showers overnight Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.
