Porzingis says he's staying out of Knicks' coaching search
While those candidates are expected, another possible replacement that has emerged is Mike Woodson, who is former head coach of the Knicks and current assistant for the Clippers.
Blatt has said he wants another chance in the National Basketball Association, and he's a possible candidate for a good number of the current or looming job openings around the league.
Last year's drama-filled offseason created concern that Kristaps Porzingis' time in NY would end before it could even truly begin.
"Of course, I love this place as I've said before, and right now I'm just focused on the knee", he said.
"Jeff is a true professional who has worked tirelessly for this organization the last two seasons", Knicks President Steve Mills and General Manager Scott Perry said in a statement. "I'm sure the front office, they will make the right decisions and build something that can go a long way", Porzingis said. "I want to come back more fluid".
Hired by the Cavs prior to the 2014-15 season, Blatt amassed an 83-40 record in his 123 games in Cleveland.
The Knicks are wasting no time as they search to replace Jeff Hornacek, who was sacked from his coaching duties Thursday.
However, they struggled through a disappointing 2013-14 campaign and Woodson was offered as a scapegoat.
He coached the Hawks for six seasons, reaching the postseason in his final three years there, winning two playoff rounds.
"I would be insane not to, " said Woodson, who served six seasons in Atlanta.
Woodson, 60, coached the Knicks from midway through the 2011-12 season through 2014.
Beyond KP's injury, the Knicks made some head-scratching moves, bringing in point guards Trey Burke and Emmanuel Mudiay despite rookie point guard Frank Ntilikina's clear need for development. "Somebody calls me and gives me the opportunity to talk, I'd be happy to talk".
