The U.S., France and Britain launched military strikes on Saturday morning in Syria to punish Assad for an apparent chemical attack against civilians last week and to deter him from doing it again. But the Syrian regime is refuting the effectiveness of those strikes.

French President Emmanuel Macron said the responsibility of the Syrian regime for using chemical agents was beyond doubt.

Hundreds of Syrians demonstrated in a landmark square of the Syrian capital, waving victory signs and honking their auto horns in a show of defiance.

The "mission has not been accomplished", said Suzanne Akhras, president of the Syrian Community Network.

Haley has been one of the strongest voices accusing Russian Federation of enabling the Syrian government in its use of chemical weapons in the civil war that is now in its seventh year.

She said it sent a message to anyone who used chemical weapons, and came after efforts to use diplomatic channels were "repeatedly thwarted".

A sarin attack triggered Trump's decision a year ago to strike a Syrian air base.

"We will continue to work with our worldwide partners to further investigate the use of chemical weapons in Syria".

Russian Federation and Syria have said there was no evidence of a chemical weapons attack. Putin added that Russian military experts who inspected Douma found no trace of the attack.

Saeed noted that he could not have stayed at the research center after the strikes if it had contained chemical weapons, as claimed by the United States and its allies.

The vote reflected support for the airstrikes on Syrian chemical sites but also again demonstrated the paralysis of the U.N.'s most powerful body in dealing with the seven-year-long Syrian conflict.

At a Pentagon briefing on April 14, Lieutenant-General Kenneth McKenzie said three sites that are "fundamental components of the regime's chemical-weapons infrastructure" were struck.

While the Pentagon claimed the missile barrage hit their targets and would cripple Assad's ability to develop, produce or deploy chemical or biological weapons, the long-term effect was less clear.

The ministry reported that a total of 100 cruise and air-to-surface missiles had been fired (while 59 missiles were fired at the Shayrat Airbase last year), a lot of them were shot down by Syria's air defense units upon approaching their targets. "This massacre was a significant escalation in a pattern of chemical weapons used by that very bad regime".

He authorized a barrage of Tomahawk cruise missiles to hit a single Syrian airfield in April 2017 in retaliation for Assad's use of sarin gas against civilians.
