City put themselves in position to win the league by bouncing back from a bitterly disappointing week to ease past Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 at Wembley on Saturday to remind everyone why they have been the best side in the country by a distance this season.

Or it could be achieved on Sunday, without playing, if last-place West Bromwich Albion wins at United.

But even if United win their next two games against West Brom and on Wednesday at Bournemouth, City can wrap up the title at home to Swansea City next Sunday to secure their third league championship in six years and Guardiola's first in English football.

Their limp Champions League quarter-final exit against Liverpool came either side of their failure to clinch the title last weekend, when United came from two goals down to win 3-2.

Leroy Sane nearly gave City the lead in stunning fashion after four minutes, crashing a back-post volley against the post after Sterling's delivery from the right.

They eventually broke the deadlock on 21 minutes as Jesus latched on to a long ball from Vincent Kompany before slotting past Hugo Lloris. Choose US to stream the Man City v Tottenham match on Sling TV (use the link below).

Goals from Gabriel Jesus and Ilkay Gundogan put City 2-0 ahead after the 25-minute mark, before a second-half goal from Raheem Sterling cancelled out a reply from Christian Eriksen just before the break at Wembley.

This season the 18-consecutive victories between August and December set a new Premier League record and the has spent a total of 240 days at the summit of the league since the start of the season.

"We have to congratulate Manchester City because they are very close to winning the title".

Man City: Ederson (8), Walker (7), Kompany (8), Laporte (6), Delph (6), Gundogan (8), D Silva (7), Sterling (8), De Bruyne (7), Sane (7), Jesus (8).

"We only started to compete after 2-0 down, we scored, but of course over 90 minutes Manchester City were better".

"I've said it so many times, people don't hear me how often I say it, but I'll say it again: I took more pleasure giving a goal than scoring a goal".

"I play as a wing more so it's easier for them because they are always in front of goal".

The foul was committed outside the box, so the decision to award a penalty was incorrect, but Lloris was ultimately fortunate not to be sent off by referee Moss for the foul.

With fixtures against Brighton and an FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United on the horizon, Pochettino stressed it was no time panic after the defeat.

The Premier League continues this weekend with Matchday 34, and Sportsnet will have live coverage of five games.
