Russia claims air strikes on Syria by UK, France and US 'not due to chemical attacks'
Earlier in the day, Chief of the Main Operational Directorate of the Russian General Staff Col. Gen. Sergey Rudskoy said that Russia might consider sale of the S-300 systems to Damascus following US-led strikes against Syria. At the meeting, the fifth in a week on chemical weapons in Syria, Russia and its supporters again clashed with the United States and its allies over a suspected poison gas attack on April 7 in the Damascus suburb of Douma. "We warned that such actions will not be left without consequences". As a result, Washington, and its allies - France and the United Kingdom - fired missiles on the Syrian facilities, which they claimed were linked with chemical weapons production.
According to Interfax news agency, Russia's defence ministry also said that Syria intercepted the US and allied attacks using Soviet-produced hardware, including the Buk missile system.

"You need to be really exceptional to shell Syria's capital at the moment when it had gained a chance of a peaceful future". At the meeting, the fifth in a week on chemical weapons in Syria, Russia and its supporters again clashed with the USA and its allies over a suspected gas attack on April 7 in the Damascus suburb of Douma.
Russia's ambassador to the U.S. warned that there would be consequences for the attacks early on Saturday, which came in response to a suspected chemical weapons attack in the former rebel stronghold of Douma last weekend.
"American and other Western media must understand their responsibility for what happened", Zakharova wrote. And she said President Donald Trump told her Saturday morning that if the Syrian regime uses poisonous gas again "the United States is locked and loaded" to strike again.
