British Prime Minister Theresa May will face criticism on Monday for bypassing parliament to join weekend air strikes against Syria, with some lawmakers calling for a potentially damaging vote on her future strategy.
Four Royal Air Force Tornado jets using Storm Shadow missiles had taken part in the attack on a military facility near Homs where it was assessed Syria had stockpiled chemicals, Britain's Ministry of Defence (MoD) said.
"There is no practicable alternative to the use of force to degrade and deter the use of chemical weapons by the Syrian regime", May said in a televised statement.
He also did not rule out further attacks against Syria if the Assad regime continued the alleged use of chemical weapons.
"Important infrastructure was destroyed which will result in a setback for the Syrian regime", Mattis said. The French military on Saturday targeted Syria's main chemicals research centre as well as two other facilities, hours after President Emmanuel Macron ordered a military intervention in Syria alongside the United States and Britain in an attack on the chemical weapons arsenal.
May said the strikes would "send a clear signal to anyone else who believes they can use chemical weapons with impunity".
The Russian Foreign Ministry slammed those allegations as a bogus story, while Russia's Defense Ministry pointed out that the White Helmets were not a reliable source of information as they were known for spreading fabricated news.
"I have done so because I judge this action to be in Britain's national interest", she added.
"It was both right and legal to take military action together with our closest allies to alleviate further humanitarian suffering by degrading the Syrian regime's chemical weapons capability", May said.
In her comments, May also alluded to a nerve agent attack in Britain last month on a former Russian spy and his daughter.
Shortly after the military strikes were launched, Scotland's first minister Nicola Sturgeon said United Kingdom foreign policy should be set by Parliament and not Donald Trump after the U.S., United Kingdom and France bombed targets in Syria.
The DUP has backed Prime Minister Theresa May's decision to authorise air strikes in Syria.
Over 100 missiles were fired on the morning of Saturday, April 14, targeting what representatives of coalition forces called chemical weapons sites in retaliation for an earlier poison gas attack. "The opposition does not operate helicopters or use barrel bombs".

But he called gau-rakshaks 'gundas (goons). "I was shocked as this government has helped Pakistan-supporters", he went on to say. Togadia's strong pro-Hindutva remarks were not in sync with Modi who was trying to reinvent himself for a larger national role.
