Oracle persuades Australia to examine Google's data-tracking practices

Опасные вирусы научились обходить защиту Google

The Daily Telegraph is reporting that THE ACCC (the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission) is investigating accusations that Google is spending millions to secretly track patrons' every move.

Oracle further claims that this data transfers to Google, which could be up to gigabytes per month, and is being paid by the users themselves.

Oracle is of course in the middle of an ongoing lawsuit against Google in the USA with regards to Google supposedly using protected Java APIs in Android.

Past year similar claims were made about Android smartphones in a Quartz report, including the idea that user location was being relayed to Google even when location services were turned off.

The voice-controlled Google Assistant, Google Play Store, Google Maps and other Google services will be added to Volvo's next-generation Sensus infotainment system which itself is based on Google's smartphone and tablet technology.

ACCC chairman Rod Sims said he was briefed recently by U.S. experts who had intercepted, copied and decrypted messages sent back to Google from mobiles running on the company's Android operating system.

According to reports: "Google has mapped IP addresses, Wi-Fi connection points, and mobile towers".

This information, the lawmakers argue, could be shared and used by advertisers. Google has responded that the information tracking is carried out with the consent of smart mobile users.

Reports indicate that almost $600 million is spent annually in Australia to secretly track users' every step.

The regulator has reportedly met with the report's author to learn more about how Google services impact customers' privacy and finances. "When you use Google services we may collect and process information about your actual location", says Google's privacy policy. Although with the arrival of Android P it could become history since Google plans to ditch this notification in the next Android OS version. Everyone who uses Google services must agree to these terms and conditions, but there is now a debate over whether this consent is valid.

"Google has an intimate understanding of personal lives as they watch their users seek the support of reproductive health services, engage in civic activities, or attend places of religious worship", the senators wrote.
