Time travellers have been invited to attend Stephen Hawking's memorial service

The late Stephen Hawking was fascinated by time travel

Time travellers invited to Stephen Hawking's memorial service

For his cocktail party in 2009, he tested the theory that time travelers existed by only inviting the guests after the party already ended.

In a fitting homage to Stephen Hawking, the theoretical physicist's memorial service will not only be open to members of the public, but time travellers of the future, too.

Stephen Hawking's ashes will be put to rest next to two other influential scientists: Charles Darwin, buried in 1882 and Isaac Newton, buried in 1727.

Hawking's foundation said that the possibility of time travel has not yet been disproven, so it can not be excluded.

He once jokingly suggested people should "invent time travel" if they wanted to address questions or complaints to his "younger self", so it is hardly surprising that time travellers might well attend Prof Stephen Hawking's memorial service.

Applicants need to give their birth date - which can be any day up to 31 December 2038.

In June 2009, after "a party for time travelers", Professor Hawking said that the fact that she had no one was, is an experimental proof that time travel is impossible.

The quirk that allows people born more than 20 years into the future to apply was noticed by London travel blogger IanVisits.

The world's most recognisable scientist died in March aged 76, after a lifetime spent probing the origins of the universe, the mysteries of black holes and the nature of time itself.

"No one came, but it seems flawless that now the reminder service's website will be able to assist people born in the future".

"Everything is possible until proven otherwise". "But so far we have had applications from all round the world, and we do mean round there are no flat-earthers here", the foundation statement added.

"I like simple experiments - and champagne", Hawking said at the time. If any time traveller attends the event then this will be the biggest discovery of mankind to date.

"I sat there a long time, but no one came", Prof Hawking told reporters in 2012. The Service of Thanksgiving will be held at Westminster Abbey on 15 June.
