Report: Browns, Mayfield to be featured on HBO's Hard Knocks

Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield passes during rookie minicamp at the NFL football team's training camp facility Friday

The Browns and 49ers were in the conversation for "Hard Knocks" because league rules stipulate that a team is eligible to be selected - either voluntarily or by mandate - if it hasn't appeared on the show in the last 10 years, hasn't reached the playoffs the last two seasons, or didn't just hire a new coach. "Hard Knocks" chronicles behind-the-scenes stories of training camp of one National Football League team each summer. Another theme will be the likely quarterback competition between veteran Tyrod Taylor and No. 1 overall pick Baker Mayfield, who seems to have the ideal brash personality for the show.

A 30-person NFL Films crew will be in Browns training camp at team headquarters in Berea, Ohio shooting more than 2,000 hours of footage over the course of the series.

Not to mention the fact that no fan base in America has experienced "hard knocks" with the degree of ferocity and regularity that Browns fans have.

"I've been a part of "Hard Knocks" and when you experience it first hand, you come to appreciate the inside look it really gives fans", said Browns head coach Hue Jackson per ESPN.

Coming off an abysmal 0-16 season, the Browns have been making numerous offseason moves, including the signings of big name free agents like Tyrod Taylor and Jarvis Landry. In 2013, Jackson was an assistant coach with the Bengals when they were featured.

The Browns have turned down previous opportunities to be on the award-winning series.

"Once we sat down and talked about it as an organization, I feel a lot better and understand why the time is right", said Dorsey, who has been overhauling the team since being hired in December. Last season, HBO's cameras followed the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who went on to post a disappointing 5-11 record, good enough for last place in the NFC South.

"Hard Knocks" began in 2001 with the Baltimore Ravens.
