Nick Cave And Warren Ellis Scoring HBO's The Case Against Adnan Syed
The series will "closely re-examine" the 1999 disappearance and murder of 18-year-old Baltimore high school student Hae Min Lee, and the subsequent conviction of Syed, her ex-boyfriend. According to Apple, Serial was the fastest podcast in the history of its iTunes store to receive five million downloads.
Berg has been in production on the series since 2015, charting the various machinations and breakthroughs that have marked the case, including the latest twist.
The series will be directed by Deliver Us From Evil and West of Memphis director Amy Berg and will explore the case that prompted the podcast phenomenon.
Syed was jailed in 1999 for the murder of ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee and has been serving a life sentence ever since.
The case against Adnan Syed, made famous by the podcast Serial, will get another re-examination in a four-hour documentary series on HBO, the network announced Wednesday (May 16).
For those who were consumed with this story, HBO and Sky said the series will include "ground-breaking revelations that challenge the state's case".
On March 29, 2018 the Maryland Appellate Court upheld Judge Welch's decision that this was significant enough to grant Syed a new trial.
Working Title TV and Instinct Productions are producing, and NBC Universal International Studios are distributing the follow-up to the case, which will play on the Sky Atlantic channel in the United Kingdom and in the US on HBO, Reuters reported. While we might miss Serial's classic theme music, Nick Cave and experimental musician Warren Ellis are locked in to collaborate on the series' almost-certainly-eerie soundscape.
HBO has not yet announced a release date for the series.
Adnan Syed is about to be tried - again - in the court of public opinion.
