Senate Bows To Court Order On Omo-Agege's Reinstatement

"We have equally filed an appeal against the judgement of the court and a motion for stay of execution of the judgement at the Court of Appeal".

The invitations were sequel to testimonies from heads of different security agencies within the National Assembly alleging that Omo-Agege led seven unauthorised personnel into the red chamber and disrupted plenary, just as it was also alleged that Senator Ndume prevented a Sergeant at arms who ought to protect and take possession of the Mace, from taking it away to safety.

In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Sabi Abdullahi, the Senate said it has been briefed by its lawyers on last Thursday's judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja nullifying its suspension of Omo-Agege, adding that it had resolved not to stop the senator into the chamber.

The duo of Ndume and Omo- Agege are to appear Wednesday before the Senate and House Representatives Joint Committee that is Investigating the Incident of the Senate Chamber Invasion on their alleged roles in the attack of the Senate Hallowed Chamber on April 18, 2018 and subsequent carting away of the Mace, the symbol of authority.

The Senate had said it will not stop Omo-Agege from attending plenary on Tuesday, in compliance with a Federal High Court order.

As early as 9:30 a.m., journalists stationed their cameras around the entrance of the Senate chamber to catch on tape the resumption of the senator.

Recall that the Senate had recently suspended Omo-Agege after he accused its leadership of aiming at President Muhammadu Buhari's re-election by trying to reorder the sequence of the 2019 general election.

On the day of his suspension, Omo-Agege told Punch that he would continue to work as a senator.

Justice Dimgba, therefore, ordered the immediate reinstatement of Senator Omo Agege his salaries and other entitlements should be paid. So, this order binds Saraki, the Senate, the AGF who represents the Federal Government.

"Therefore, I expect them to fully comply with that judgment".

At the hearing on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, chairman of the committee, Bala Ibn Na'Allah, said the summon was sequel to the testimonies of the DPO, the SSS and the sergeant at arms at the National Assembly.

This was confirmed by another party leader, Olorogun O'tega Emerhor, who said the adoption of the unity list contributed to the success of the congress.The Guardian learnt that the outcome of the congresses were harmonised before the official result were announced to avoid a further rift in the party.
