On Thursday, the President suggested that the "Obama FBI" had embedded an informant within his campaign in 2016. In a recent column, McCarthy said that Glenn Simpson, the co-founder of an intelligence firm, Fusion GPS, that compiled research on Trump during the campaign, had testified to the Senate that the F.B.I. had a "human source" within the campaign.

The US president made the claim, without any supporting evidence, in a tweet following and earlier post describing the special counsel investigation into potential ties between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation, "the greatest witch hunt in American history".

"Wow, word seems to be coming out that the Obama FBI SPIED ON THE TRUMP CAMPAIGN WITH AN EMBEDDED INFORMANT, '" Trump tweeted.

Citing National Review's Andrew McCarthy, former assistant US attorney for the southern district of New York, Trump said the Federal Bureau of Investigation "probably" had an informant embedded in Trump's campaign.

That has become a politically contentious point, with Mr. Trump's allies questioning whether the F.B.I. was spying on the Trump campaign or trying to entrap campaign officials. A number of those charges were related to Russia's interference in the presidential election, but so far, none of them has extended to potential collusion between the Russian government and Trump associates. "Sorry to the Fake News Media and 'Haters, ' but that's the way it is!"

Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III, center, departs a closed-door meeting at the Capitol on June 21, 2017. "Maybe a special counsel, special prosecutor, never should have been appointed".

Donald Trump apparently has a mole problem - and we're not talking about the ones Stormy Daniels has seen.

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) has sought classified documents from the Justice Department, saying he needs to review the records as part of his congressional oversight duties.
