Documentary alleges Whitney Houston was sexually abused as a child

New Whitney Houston Documentary Sheds a Light on a Youth Filled With Trauma

The new documentary Whitney just premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, and it contains an explosive revelation about the late singing superstar Whitney Houston: According to one of her closest friends, Houston said that she was molested at a young age by Dee Dee Warwick, Houston's cousin and the sister of Dionne Warwick.

The emotional trailer features appearances by Houston's mother, Cissy Houston, her brother, Michael Houston, Bobby Brown, as well as legendary music executives Clive Davis, Babyface, and L.A. Reid.

The project is described as an "unflinching portrait" of the "I Will Always Love You" hitmaker and her family, and will shed "new light" on her personal life.

In a never-before-seen clip of Houston, the entertainer throws serious shade at choreographer-turned-singer Paula Abdul.

"When I was first approached about it, my immediate response was that I'm not really interested in Whitney Houston". Whitney also explores Houston's complicated relationship with her mother and highly publicized yoyo romance with Bobby Brown. "Paula Abdul ain't shit", Houston says. "He wanted to be on the stage; he wanted to be [at] the forefront".

Whitney Houston broke more music industry records than any other female singer in history. "And eventually, she (Houston) stepped down to lift him up". "She was handsome", she said, "her heart".

"Then I (interviewed) Mary Jones, who was Whitney's longtime assistant. and she told me Whitney's point of view on this, and what Whitney had told her in detail, and how important she felt it was for understanding Whitney, but how scared everyone was to talk about it".

Whitney was abused as a child, her family has claimed. And I thought that was interesting. You can check it out the Miramax and Roadside Attractions in theaters (in North America) starting July 6. "And then Nicole sent me this article about Whitney's rendition of the 'Star Spangled Banner" and how that changed how the song has been understood and sung ever since" he explained.
