YouTube launches new music streaming service May 22

New YouTube subscription music service will launch next week – but only in 5 markets

In a briefing this week, the company promised it will be closing gaps between the two services over the next month, so Google Play Music members don't lose the features they've grown accustomed to, including a cloud-based MP3 storage locker. And thanks to Bob Lefsetz posting a rambling preview, we're don't have to wait much longer.

With huge numbers of people already turning to YouTube for music, the video-sharing platform is now attempting to make the most of it. again.

The launch, which is not a complete launch, with that expected to happen next Tuesday - Wednesday our time - will see YouTube Red disappear and be replaces with YouTube Music Premium available for $9.99USD per month which includes services such as ad-free music, listen in the background and downloadable content, or YouTube Premium for $11.99USD per month which includes all that plus the new YouTube Originals series like Cobra Kai and the upcoming Impulse series.

And what of Google Play Music? "YouTube Music includes a reimagined mobile app and brand new desktop player that are designed for music".

CNet reported that the company's YouTube Red will be renamed to YouTube Premium, and will bundle YouTube Music with ad-free original shows for $12 a month.

As for pricing, YouTube Premium will cost $11.99 Dollars per month in the USA, while YouTube Music on its own will cost $9.99 USD per month.

In addition to no ads, YouTube Premium provides access to downloads, background playing and all the YouTube Originals.

The initial launch includes the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, and South Korea.

YouTube is launching a new music-oriented streaming service called YouTube Music to rival the likes of Spotify and Apple Music. The service is slated to later be launched in Austria, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
