We'll soon know just how much of a time suck Instagram

Last year Instagram said that users of the app who are under 25 spent an average of more than 32 minutes per day in Instagram, while older users where spending more than 24 minutes per day in it.

TechCrunch reports that app investigator Jane Manchun Wong unearthed the code featuring "time spent" within "the Instagram for Android application package, or 'APK.' " But the publication also makes it clear that we don't yet know what time period "time spent" will be tracking. According to Wong, this "Usage Insights" option shows up when you tap on the hamburger menu (those three horizontal lines) at the top-left corner of the screen.

The good folks over at Instagram are back, and they are looking to give users insights into their usage. This should also help people deal with their Instagram addiction.

Systrom says Instagram wants the time spent within the app to be "positive and intentional".

He said: "Understanding how time online impacts people is important, and it's the responsibility of". This will allow users to break down their personal usage, getting an idea of time spent, data shared and much more throughout the app.

Give us your thoughts on the new feature below and let us know what you think in the comments.

It remains to be seen when Instagram will officially roll out the new tool to users in general.
