Philadelphia Eagles defensive back Malcolm Jenkins will not go to the White House with his team-mates
The topic of which members of the team would go to the White House started the second the Eagles defeated the New England Patriots. Those conversations were muddled by a report from the New York Times that included comments made by Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie in which he was critical of Trump. "He's fired. He's fired!", President Trump in this past September, per Time.com. There are some players who do, too.
"[When] my son grows up, and I believe the legacy of our president is going to be what it is", Long said in February, via the Washington Post.
Graham, one of the heroes of Super Bowl LII, had the procedure May 1 and is now in a protective boot.
"It's not about politics; I just don't think the president is a good person".
The NBA champion Golden State Warriors did not go to the White House a year ago after Trump rescinded the offer when star guard Steph Curry expressed hesitation over the trip. "I'm just gonna leave it at that", said Blount on "The Rich Eisen Show" a year ago. Jenkins said. "If you want to meet to talk about events in my community, changing the country, I'm all for that".
Trump's presidency has thrown a wrench into the tradition of championship teams visiting the White House, as many players who oppose his presidency have stated they wouldn't go; Trump rescinded an invitation to the National Basketball Association champion Golden State Warriors after the players and coach Steve Kerr indicated they weren't planning on going anyway. "It's one thing to have a fan say something on social media, but to have a high ranking official come out and single guys out, it lets guys know that their voices are needed to bring people together".
Alongside those players who already committed to skipping the White House visit, there are some who are a little unsure. I just don't see it.
"I don't want to take away from anybody's experience or make it a big distraction".
