Alexander Zverev celebrates his five-set victory against Karen Khachanov

Alexander Zverev might be mentally drained after three five-set matches in a row when he takes on Dominic Thiem in a much-anticipated French Open quarter-final clash on Tuesday.

The French Open is free to watch on TV for United Kingdom viewers.

The world number three, as in the second and third rounds, came back from the brink to defeat Karen Khachanov 4-6 7-6 (7-4) 2-6 6-3 6-3 on Court Suzanne-Lenglen.

The chance of him advancing became even less likely as Thiem broke with a backhand passing shot up the line at the start of the third and Zverev's race was effectively run.

"I'm very pi**ed off about it", he smiled. "This is the quarterfinals".

Zverev has proven his psychological toughness and bodily stamina in reversing the deficits in Paris.

Zverev began to let rip, snatching one game back, but the outcome was inevitable and Thiem put him out of his misery with a routine backhand victor into a wide-open court.

"I'm in the quarterfinals of a grand slam".

Zverev did not waiver in the fifth set either, taking control with an early break and wrapping up the match on Khachanov's serve several games later before falling to his knees in celebration.

"I'll make sure that to be prepared in two days' time".

Thiem has faced some tough battles on the way to this quarter-final, including a high-quality four-set tussle with Kei Nishikori in the fourth round on Sunday.

The Austrian seventh-seed needed two hours and 28 minutes to eliminate 19th-seeded Nishikori, a finalist at the Monte-Carlo Masters in April, reports Efe. Despite calling the trainer and having a short medical time out in between the second and third sets, the German could do little to alleviate his issues, with Thiem prevailing 6-4, 6-2, 6-1 in just and hour and 50 minutes. "So I think we can make it legendary and that would be very nice", Thiem, 24, told reporters after his huge forehand helped him to destroy Japan's Nishikori.

Wozniacki is a tour veteran at 27 and to her delight, won't ever be asked again when she'll win a first major after breaking through at the Australian Open in January. Both have provided Nadal with challenges during this clay court season, although only Thiem has beaten him. Wozniacki did however make the quarterfinals previous year in Paris prior to losing to the eventual champion Jelena Ostapenko. The Austrian sealed his victory in the first set with an ace.

Former champion Novak Djokovic sprinted past Spain's Fernando Verdasco 6-3 6-4 6-2 to reach his 12th Roland Garros quarter-final.

On Saturday, Goffin saved four match points to complete a draining victory over Gael Monfils.

To achieve that feat, Cecchinato, who in 2016 was suspended for 18 months for match fixing before his ban was lifted following a successful appeal, displayed an impressive range of claycourt tennis skills. No. 10 seed Sloane Stephens awaits the victor in the quarterfinals after downing Anett Kontaveit 6-2, 6-0.

Zverev was coming off a trio of wins that went five sets and, while still just 21, could not will his body to another comeback.

Debate: Will Maria Sharapova end her wretched record against Serena Williams? "I'll get myself ready", Zverev said.
