Israel Says Palestinian Medic's Death in Gaza Was Unintentional
An Israeli soldier was lightly injured by a rock in the predawn hours of Thursday when riots broke out during an arrest raid in the West Bank city of Nablus, the army said.
Villagers said paramedics were prevented from treating Tamimi as he bled out from his wounds.
The Israeli military's Twitter post, which misstated her age as 22, said an initial examination had found "that a small number of bullets were fired during the incident, and that no shots were deliberately or directly aimed towards her".
Palestinians threw stones and cement blocks at soldiers, who responded with live fire and crowd dispersal methods, the Israel Defense Forces said.
A follow-up Twitter post said the episode would be further examined by the Israeli military and that the findings would be passed to the chief military lawyer.
Since 2015, 50 Israelis have been killed in stabbings, shootings and car-ramming attacks, while Israeli forces have killed over 260 Palestinians in that period.
A relative of a Palestinian, who was killed by Israeli troops, reacts at a hospital in Ramallah, in the occupied West Bank June 6, 2018.
Attacks have petered off in recent months as the Palestinian focus has shifted toward protests at the Gaza border, where Israeli troops have killed over 115 Palestinians wounded almost 3,700 more during near-weekly protests, according to Palestinian health officials. The 17-year-old Ahed has drawn worldwide attention for her arrest after slapping an Israeli soldier in the face in December.
