Amazon announces Fire TV Cube with 4K playback and built-in microphones

Amazon is bringing Alexa and Echo to France this month
However, for the average person who doesn't have a large sound system and already has an Amazon Echo and Fire TV, the Fire TV Cube probably won't add too much value. It's now available for pre-order by Prime members Thursday and Friday for $89.99.
"We believe voice makes it easier for customers to control their entertainment systems and watch the TV and movies they care about", Marc Whitten, vice president of Amazon's Fire TV division, said in a statement.
From a specifications perspective, it appears to tick all the right boxes, with 4K Ultra HD and HDR video output, multi-directional infrared capabilities and 8 microphones, HDMI/CEC support, Dolby Atmos audio, and more.
About the UI of the box, Amazon says that it works to deliver "content forward" with actions and operations surrounding the wirelessness of the Fire TV Cube. "And, it's just the beginning". The device will ship on June 21st.
Continuing its quest to eliminate the mundane tasks of life, you can now tell Amazon's voice assistant Alexa to change the channel without a remote. As its "Fire" name suggests, this is a device created to plug into your TV, but its enhanced Alexa capabilities go far beyond what the existing Fire TV is capable of. But Amazon is offering it for $89.99 for Prime members until Friday. The $120 Cube can connect to TVs, sound bars, cable boxes, and other streaming devices, and owners can use Alexa to control every aspect of their TV-viewing experience.
Using Alexa's voice controls, users can switch their TV on and off, change the volume, switch inputs, and change the channel. It can turn on the television automatically over HDMI-CEC and then automatically navigate itself to the particular content, even if it is within a non-Amazon app, such as Netflix or Hulu, as long as the app integrates with Alexa. Moreover, if you buy the device and register it by July 1, you will get a $10 credit for Prime Video.

For that reason, Apple had guidelines that would prevent these sorts of apps from appearing on the App Store in the first place. Billboard will update this story as the presentation continues and more information becomes available.
