Eagles Coach: ‘It’s Over, It’s Behind Us, We’re Moving On’

A guest at President Donald Trump's White House event on Tuesday apparently took a knee during the national anthem

Philadelphia Eagles coach Doug Pederson spoke to the press Wednesday morning for the first time since President Trump disinvited the Super Bowl-winning team from a White House event. "It's over, behind us and we're moving on". Four days later, the White House said in a statement that she had undergone a successful embolization procedure.

Long was one of the players who wasn't going to visit the White House (and didn't go in 2017 when he was with the Patriots), making his displeasure with the President clear for several years.

Kerr's last comment was in reference to the military celebration Trump held at the White House Tuesday afternoon in lieu of the Eagles event.

The Eagles reportedly were set to send less than 10 players to visit Trump. "... Our true fans, they're beside us, we're beside them". Malcolm Jenkins has written on the topic and was one of the players who met with National Football League owners to work toward converting activism to action.

Earlier this week, Melania Trump had attended her first White House event in weeks, hosting a reception on Tuesday for the families of slain USA military service members, though that event was closed to the media.

But today (June 6), Jenkins put the power of creative protest in display One sign said "YOU AREN'T LISTENING", another said "Chris Long gave his entire year's salary to educational initiatives".

Tuesday's "Celebration of America" event on the South Lawn featured brief remarks by the president along with a rendition of "God Bless America" by the Army Chorus, accompanied by the United States Marine Band. The NFL players who don't respect and love America aren't here, so we are free to celebrate the country with some patriotic songs.

"I think there was a lot of discussion between the White House and the Eagles trying to formulate a plan", Ertz said.

The league's new anthem policy, which requires players to stand if they are on the field during the playing of "The Star-Spangled Banner", has added fuel to the controversy and politicization surrounding the issue in recent weeks.

"It will be nice when we can just get back to normal in three years", Kerr said.

Of course, not a single Eagles player kneeled during the national anthem before any game last season, and players denied the national anthem debate had anything to do with the decision for many players not to attend. "It hasn't come up here, but I think I already have my mind made up".
