Severed Rattlesnake Head Bites Texas Man, Leaving Him Needing 26 Doses Of Anti-venom

Severed rattlesnake head bites man who decapitated it

A Corpus Christi man has had more than two dozen doses of antivenom after he was bitten by a rattlesnake even after he had severed its head, according to a KIII-TV report.

Her husband severed its head with a gardening tool.

The snake released all of its venom into Sutcliffe's husband, causing him to immediately experience seizures, loss of vision and internal bleeding. He had been treated with 26 doses of antivenin.

A man has almost died after being bitten by a snake that he had just beheaded with a shovel.

A man is still recovering after he was bitten by a rattlesnake, even after the snake had already been beheaded.

Sutcliffe's husband is now in stable condition, but his kidney function is still weak.

While Jennifer said she was scared too, she tried to stay positive.

Trauma surgeon michael Halpert said that neither sucking the venom out yourself nor using a home remedy will help deal with the bite.

"There was actually three different times in the first 24 hours that the doctors told me that they didn't think he was going to make it", Jennifer said.

Unlike a tiger, for instance, which kills prey by sinking its teeth into an animal's flesh and holding on, snakes aim to deliver just one, extremely quick bite and then move away from their prey before getting trampled.

With six rattlesnake species native to Texas, not to mention all the state's copperheads, this may serve as an important cautionary tale for other homeowners who may be faced with a venomous snake on their property.

He also encouraged people never to suck out the venom as characters in TV shows and movies often do. The population of these snakes is so high that a special event is held in Sweetwater, Texas to get rid of excess rattlesnakes every year.
