NASA Is About to Announce What Curiosity Rover Found after Searching for Signs of Life on Mars
The RoverCuriosity landed on the planet within the mission of the NASAMarsScience Laboratory in 2012. NASA astronauts will show spectacular footage on your channel, as well as in popular social networks.
New "science results from NASA's Mars Curiosity rover " will be made public at 2pm EDT on June 7. According to a statement from the space Agency, at a press conference, experts will talk about new achievements in terms of colonization of Mars. "It represents months and months of work by our team to pull this off", Jim Erickson, project manager of the Mars Science Laboratory mission at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, said in a news release.
The space agency has so far remained silent about the nature of its conference but the live discussion will detail results from the Curiosity Rover's expeditions. The rover recently began drilling into the Martian surface for the first time in 18 months.
Curiosity drilled its last scheduled rock sample in October 2016.
"On Mars we must attempt to estimate visually while that is Functioning, only by taking a look at pictures of just how much wax drops out", explained John Michael Moorokian of JPL, the scientist who headed development of this new sample shipping procedure. This is "feed extended sample transfer", where CHIMRA is bypassed and the drill is suspended over the inlet to the laboratory to allow the sample to trickle down for later delivery to the analysis section.
"The science team was confident that the engineers would deliver - so confident that we drove back to a site that we missed drilling before. The gambit paid off, and we now have a key sample we might have never gotten", Vasavada said. "It means we can resume studying Mount Sharp, which Curiosity is climbing, with our full range of scientific tools".
