Val Kilmer returns for 'Top Gun: Maverick'

The original, starring Tom Cruise, Kelly McGillis and Val Kilmer, grossed over US$353 million (RM1.4 billion) worldwide.
The sequel, titled Top Gun: Maverick, will follow Cruise's Pete "Maverick" Mitchell as he passes his flyboy knowledge on to a new generation of pilots in the US Navy. The two characters start out as rivals before becoming friends after earning each other's respect.
Last week, Cruise actually shared the first picture from the movie and it made a lot of '80s kids excited. Iceman's famous line to Maverick was: "I don't like you because you're unsafe".
This may seem like a odd time to finally deliver a sequel to the 32-year-old box office smash, but late director Tony Scott, who was offered the project prior to his death in 2012, saw the new world of the 2010s as an opportunity to try something different from his previous hit. "It's true", he said on Australia's Sunrise morning show. Kilmer told fans he was ready to jump on board the same day.
Kilmer has been vying for the Top Gun:Maverick role since it was announced a year ago. Still got the moves!
The film is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer for Jerry Bruckheimer Films and David Ellison for Skydance, and is expected to release in July next year.
The Paramount movie, which hits theaters next summer on July 12, 2019 and is now in production in San Diego, follows fighter pilots who are entangled in a drone-driven airspace which has made their flying obsolete.
