Porsche's first electric vehicle will be called the Taycan
10 June 2018, 07:15 | Joann Bryant
Porsche Taycan is the name for the production Mission E
Porsche has announced its first all-electric model, previewed by the Mission E, will be known as the Taycan when it enters production next year. Digital projects, such as networking via Porsche Connect and data security using blockchain in sports cars, will also feature.
The vehicle is expected to have a range of over 250 miles.
Taycan's power train will production more than 600 horsepower that will allow the electric vehicle to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in under 3.5 seconds and to 124 mph on the track in less than 12 seconds, the company said. The big drain of maximum power can tax the charging (or discharging) system of an electric powertrain and hinder performance. This setup will allow the Taycan to be charged to 80 percent capacity in just 15 minutes, changing the way electric cars charge in the future. Taycan, the name under which the electric vehicle is to be sold, is supposed to loosely signify " lively young horse", says Porsche, which adds that the name has some sort of Eurasian origins.
"Our new electric sports auto is strong and dependable; it's a vehicle that can consistently cover long distances and that epitomizes freedom", Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG, explains.
It gave its all-new electric vehicle (EV) the worst possible name for a production automobile. Exactly when that'll translate to cars arriving on American roads hasn't been shared, though we'd expect a late 2019 debut for that. Around 500 million euro is going to go on Taycan variants and derivatives, it says, while around a billion euro will got on electrification and hybridization of the existing Porsche line-up.
Porsche said it's planning to spend €6 billion on electromobility by 2022.
The Taycan will be built in Stuttgart next year, and Porsche said it has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in new paint shops, motor factories, and transport.
